MONTREAL — Freddy Alberto Villanueva and his older brother, Danny, were playing dice with friends in a park in a tough Montreal neighbourhood when police rolled up and asked to talk to the elder sibling.

Moments later, 18-year-old Freddy lay mortally wounded, struck down in a hail of police bullets.

Another 18-year-old and a 20-year-old man were wounded in the ugly confrontation that triggered memories among some of the city's minority community leaders of violence involving police.

Danny Villanueva, 20, was questioned and released Sunday, according to his sister, Patricia Villanueva. No other arrests were made, according to police, and the two officers were not hurt.

About 100 people held a street protest in the neighbourhood Sunday night. One protester carried a sign that said, “Police assassins.”

Later in the evening, protesters used garbage, cardboard and tires to set fires in the streets in the neighbourhood where the young men were shot. At least six vehicles were torched.

As a fire truck arrived to fight one blaze, protesters pelted it with bottles, forcing a hasty retreat. Dozens of riot police worked into the evening to disperse the crowd.

Early Monday, police confirmed that two officers were injured, including one who was shot in the leg.

"One was injured in the leg by a bullet, another was struck by a flying object,"said Montreal police spokesman Constable Raphaël Bergeron.

An ambulance attendant and a television cameraman were also reported injured. None of the injuries were considered serious.

The fire from one burning vehicle spread to a building containing businesses and apartments. Firefighters began to fight the numerous blazes just before midnight.

The violence, which started near the park where the men were shot, spread more than a kilometre away. More fires were set and a city bus was pelted with projectiles.

A local news helicopter showed the bus racing away from a small crowd, sparks flying from its undercarriage.

Montreal police said an officer opened fire after a man attacked a second officer during an arrest. Some 20 young men surrounded the officers and hurled insults, according to the initial police account.

A spokesman for the police force said the men who were gunned down were unarmed, but officers felt threatened.

“People want to know: If they weren't armed, why such force?” said Jean-Ernest Pierre, a lawyer and owner of a Montreal radio station popular among the city's ethnic minorities.

He said his station was beset Sunday by angry calls.

“We've seen many cases where blacks and other minorities have been shot for no reason. People are angry, but more than that, they want answers.”

The city force stopped talking Sunday after handing the investigation over to the Sûreté du Québec, as required under provincial law.

Sergeant Grégory Gomez del Prado, spokesman for the provincial police, said it was too early to confirm anything but the barest details.

Sgt. Gomez del Prado said a male and a female officer drove up to the dice game in a squad car at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday night in Montreal North and tried to arrest a man when an altercation took place.

Witnesses in the neighbourhood, known among some officers as “The Bronx” because of its gang activity and crime, tried to fill in the gaps with their own accounts.

Ms. Villanueva, a 26-year-old accounting student, and witness Samuel Medeiros say an officer wanted to talk to Danny, but he refused to go to the officer, protesting that he hadn't done anything wrong.

When the officer arrested Danny, harsh words were exchanged and a scuffle ensued, Mr. Medeiros, 18, said in an interview.

“You can see where the glass was smashed [on the police car],” he said, showing the cellphone video he captured of the aftermath.

By several witness accounts, Freddy Villanueva was approaching the scuffle and yelling insults at the officer when the female officer opened fire.

“The police reaction really seemed over the top,” said Mr. Medeiros, who says he was a passing acquaintance of the Villanueva brothers.

“You'd think they could have called for backup.”

Witness accounts of the number of shots fired ranged from four to 10.

Several men were milling around the area, but most witnesses disputed the initial police claims that the two officers were surrounded by a menacing crowd of 20.

For some in Montreal's minority community, the shooting stirs bad memories. In the mid 1990s, two shootings and the beating of taxi driver Richard Barnabé by Montreal police sparked outrage and calls for reform.

Mr. Barnabé died in 1996 after spending two years in a vegetative state.

Earlier this year, Quebec's chief coroner ordered a public inquiry into the 2005 shooting of Mohammed Anas Bennis. The 26-year-old was gunned down as police executed a search in a fraud case. Police said he was wielding a knife, a version doubted by his family. Provincial officials have steadfastly refused to release a report into the incident.

Ms. Villanueva, whose family came to Canada from Honduras in 1998, said Danny had had previous brushes with the police, but she declined to offer details.

She maintained Freddy's only previous offence was a speeding ticket.

One man, who would identify himself only as a friend of the Villanueva brothers, said the younger Villanueva “had nothing to do with street gangs or any other crime.”

MONTREAL - A police patrol in a Montreal park turned ugly Saturday night when an officer opened fire on three young people, killing one man and wounding two others.

An 18-year-old man, identified by his sister as Freddy Alberto Villanueva, died from his wounds in hospital. The other two, an 18 and a 20-year-old, are reported to be in stable condition.

Montreal police say the officers were trying to arrest an individual during a routine police intervention in Henri Bourassa Park in the Montreal district of Montreal North when they were surrounded by a group of about 20 youths. A few individuals allegedly broke away from the group and rushed the officers.

According to police, it was then that one of the officers opened fire.

The officers were not wounded in the incident.

Quebec provincial police are investigating the incident and are interviewing witnesses.

"We do think there are many witnesses, because at that time, around 7 p.m., there were a lot of people in the park or in the surroundings of the park," said Quebec provincial police spokesman Gregory Gomez del Prado. "There were also people who were part of the altercation, and many people playing sports or just sitting in the park."

According to police, there is currently no information on the reasons behind the police intervention and attempted arrest.

"It's too early to say what happened exactly," said Gomez del Prado. "We're talking about the death of a man. It's a major investigation."

Villanueva's sister, Julissa, said in an interview from her home in the Montreal suburb of Laval, that the family is waiting for answers.

"We only know what we see in the news, in the newspapers, that's all," she said, breaking into tears as she spoke about her brother, a student who wanted become a mechanic.

Police officer shot, 2 others injured as riot erupts in Montreal
Violence sparked by protest against fatal shooting Saturday by police.

Hundreds of riot police chased a group of roving youths early Monday after a night of rioting and vandalism in a North Montreal neighbourhood set off by the fatal police shooting of an 18-year-old man over the weekend.

Two police officers were injured, including a female officer shot in the leg, after rioters set several fires and clashed with police in the streets of Montreal North late Sunday, Montreal municipal police spokesman Ian Lafrenière said.

An ambulance technician also suffered minor injuries.

"We don't fear for their lives," Lafrenière said of the injured.

Plumes of acrid smoke filled the air above the low-income housing units from cars and garbage bags set ablaze on several streets, the CBC's Justin Hayward reported from the scene. A propane tank was also set on fire, sending blasts of flames into the sky.

Fire trucks arriving to fight the blazes were pelted with beer bottles, police said.

Police arrested several people on the streets.

People were apprehended with guns ... so we're talking about criminalized people," Lafrenière said.

The park is in a predominantly Haitian neighbourhood where tensions between police and young people run high, according to residents.

"The police are always creeping around here, hassling people," one unidentified youth told CBC News as he stood in front of a looted butcher shop.

Altercation in park led to shooting
The violence began after a Sunday afternoon protest at Henri Bourassa Park, the site of Saturday's police shooting, where two other young men were also wounded as two police officers attempted to make an arrest.

Police said a group of 20 young people surrounded the officers and some members of the group rushed toward them.

At that point, one of the officers opened fire, police said.

One man died of his wounds in hospital. Two other young men, age 18 and 20, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.

The dead man's sister identified him as Freddy Alberto Villanueva. Julissa Villanueva said the family has no information about the incident, beyond what they've heard and read in the news.

Quebec provincial police have taken over the investigation into the shooting and are in the process of interviewing witnesses.

"It's too early to say what happened exactly," said provincial police spokesman Gregory Gomez del Prado. "We're talking about the death of a man. It's a big investigation."

The Beginning of the Summer Olympics and the Third World War

The Olympics are what is right about the world. On this last Friday, the eighth day of the eighth month of the eighth year of the new millennium we witnessed a fantastic spectacle, a peaceful gathering of the many nations of our small blue planet; a competition of the best young athletes from all over the world. The Olympics make us proud to be humans; proud to be citizens of Earth.

Sadly on this same day, we saw what future historians will count as the day that the Third World War began. It was designed this way, by the evil people who worked hard to begin the war under the cover of the Olympics.

We all like to be right, myself included, but sometimes it is not so wonderful. I have written a series of articles over the last few weeks on the coming nightmare centered on the neo-con grand strategy. I predicted the outbreak of hostilities in Georgia and Russia and said that there is a strong link between what is happening there and to what is about to happen against Iran. I said that the war in Georgia was intended as a strategic distraction for Russia as America, the United Kingdom, France, Israel, and others assemble their large naval blockade of Iran, but a strategic distraction that would backfire. I also described the massive US Naval armada headed for Iran; the make-up of this extremely large and powerful force is as I described it several days ago (this has now been confirmed by Israeli sources).

As Russian troops and air force pilots, and thousands of Russian civilians, die in combat in Europe for the first time since 1945, only miles from their homeland (on land that was part of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union for centuries), the sleeping Russian Bear has been awaken and filled with a terrible resolve. The fact that only within the last few weeks have the 1,000+ American Marines, sent in to train the Georgians for this very war, left is not overlooked by the Russians. The fact that (according to DEBKE the well connected Israeli strategy and military site) over 1,000 Israeli “mercenaries” are actively engaged in combat with the Russian Army on the side of the Georgians is also not overlooked. The fact that the American neo-con administration and the Israelis have been engaged in a furry of advanced arms sales and deliveries over the last year, and that these weapons are killing Russians on their historic territory, is not overlooked. The fact that the Bush administration tried very hard to get its European NATO partners to accept Georgia as a NATO member without success (too many European nations saw the trap and smelled a rather large rat), and the fact that had this neo-con gambit succeeded NATO would be in war against Russia now ~ this also is not overlooked by the Russian bear. The fact that the Georgian Defense Minister is a ‘former’ Israeli and many current and retired Israeli generals are deeply involved in Georgia is also not overlooked by the Russian bear.

The American supported, Israeli commando staffed, attack on the civilian population of South Ossetia ~ where Georgian troops conducted volley-fire artillery cleanings of a number of villages and settlements housing Russian citizens, destroying people’s homes and killing 1,500 civilians (and killing 10 lightly armed Russian peacekeeping troops and wounding 30) in the opening stages of the attack ~ is also not overlooked by the Russians. This is the Russian 9/11.

While the Russian 9/11 was taking place, the massive American/British/French naval armada was/is assembling to begin the blockade of Iran (a blockade is considered an act of war under international law), and the European Union, acting under cover of the media coverage of the Olympics, has formally approved a blockade of Iran (not using the word blockade but establishing tough new sanctions on Iran with cargo inspections and intercepts ~in other words a BLOCKADE). Neither Russia nor China, which gets a large percentage of its oil and natural gas from Iran, are willing to allow this to happen. The strategic distraction for Russia is not going to work; nor is China going to allow its distraction ~ the hosting of the Olympics ~ to rob it of its strategic source of oil and natural gas, so necessary for its economy.

Grand strategy is very interesting and complex. It is rather like space chess or space checkers ~ played on several levels. However, in real life grand strategy, the various levels have players that are often not aware of the nature of the game on the level above.

We have the Israeli population, a majority who support an attack on Iran, “to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons of mass destruction”, who do not know that the Iranians already have advanced biological weapons of mass destruction with potential kill levels very similar to that of strategic nuclear war. They will pay with their lives for this lack of knowledge. On one level, the neo-cons are all about creating a new Middle East environment where Israel is safe from any regional Muslin power and holds regional military supremacy. On another level, the global bankers are using Israel and the neo-cons to bring about the End Game of their long quest to establish a New World Order with themselves as lords and masters of all those allowed to remain alive.

At one level, the public is told that Iran “must be stopped from acquiring nuclear weapons” and that this is the reason for whatever action is necessary. Of course, we are not told ~ at least by the main stream news media ~ that even the American intelligence establishment (as well as United Nations inspectors) state clearly that the Iranian nuclear enrichment program is but several orders of magnitude below that necessary for a nuclear weapons program. The reality is that the nuclear enrichment issue is but a smokescreen for the on-going neo-con grand strategy. This same grand strategy gave us the 9/11 false flag attacks in America, the 7/7 false flag attack in England, and the Bali and Spanish false flag “terrorist” attacks and the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. The next targets on the hit list of the neo-con grand strategy are Syria and Iran. This has been the plan for years and the neo-cons are staying on course.

If the well being of Israel is not the reason for the grand strategy at the highest level, we have to ask ourselves just what in the hell is the driving force. Sadly the answer lies in the wording of the question just posed ~ Hell. At a certain level you simply cannot separate the military/economic/political/strategic from the spiritual. When you analyze the grand strategy being employed, you essentially have to come to the conclusion that it is either so damn crazy as to be a form of mass insanity by its backers or just plain evil. I think that it is the latter.

The blockade is not being set up to “stop” the Iranians ~ there is in reality nothing to stop in terms of a nuclear weapons program and they already have a global strategic advanced biowar (ABW) program that is as good as a global strategic nuclear war program at a fraction of the cost. The blockade is being set up to cause a war. To cause a war with a nation that has a true MAD (mutually assured destruction) environment with the neo-con controlled nations. To cause a war that will eventually result in the use of weapons of mass destruction throughout the world. To cause World War III.

The “strategic diversion”, that is the war between Georgia and Russia, is being set up to drive Russia into the devil’s brew of the coming war; you can bet that China will also be given good “reasons” to be totally committed in the days and weeks ahead.

There are certain global banking families who have made countless billions and even trillions over the last 200+ years organizing wars, economic depressions, revolutions, etc. to profit on everyone’s misery. They have been very successful at this. But it is simply too late in human history to be doing this now. The level of mass murder/destruction from 21^st Century warfare is beyond our ability to recover. So why continue. Again, we get back to the question is this just totally crazy or just plain evil.

On the 5^th of August, days before the attack on South Ossetia, in my article “The Good and the Bad and the Truly Ugly”, I quoted an interesting prophecy from Nostradamus, Quatrain X.74 which reads "The year of the great seventh number accomplished, it will appear at the time of the games of slaughter, not far from the age of the great millennium, when the dead will come out of their graves." This could refer to the Seven Year Tribulation, which could well be the time from 9/11/01 to 9/11/08, at the time of the Olympic Games, not far from the age of the great millennium (the beginning of the Third Millennium in 2000/2001), and Armageddon (when many dead saints are suppose to "come out of their graves"). It is interesting that the dates of the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks and now the 8/8/8 attack all have occult meanings.

I suspect that this is all simply unstoppable. However, being human we want to live not be killed in some insane Third World War. The trouble is, time is very short and most political leaders are totally corrupt, bought and paid for time and again by many of the same forces arranging the coming global war. Still, if you want to live, contact your political leaders and demand that they stop the coming war on Iran and the resulting global nightmare. It may be you only hope to stop the events that are unfolding before our very eyes. It has been posted on a truly massive number of web sites and blogs, emailed to hundreds of thousands, and seen by more people than any similar article in history. This was done not by the main stream lying media or by political hacks but by ordinary people concerned about their lives and the lives of their friends and loved ones in the days and weeks ahead. The USS Iwo Jima and USS Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Groups have USMC Harrier jump jets and an assortment of assault and attack helicopters. The Expeditionary Strike Groups have powerful USMC Expeditionary Units with amphibious armor and ground forces trained for operating in shallow waters and in seizures of land assets, such as Qeshm Island (a 50 mile long island off of Bandar Abbas in the Gulf of Hormuz and headquarters of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps).

The large and very advanced nature of the US Naval warships is not only directed at Iran. There is a great fear that Russia and China may oppose the naval and air/land blockade of Iran. If Russian and perhaps Chinese naval warships escort commercial tankers to Iran in violation of the blockade it could be the most dangerous at-sea confrontation since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US and allied Navies, by front loading a Naval blockade force with very powerful guided missile warships and strike carriers is attempting to have a force so powerful that Russia and China will not be tempted to mess with. This is a most serious game of military brinkmanship with major nuclear armed powers that have profound objections to the neo-con grand strategy and to western control of all of the Middle East's oil supply.

The Russian Navy this spring sent a major battle fleet into the Mediterranean headed by the modern aircraft carrier the Admiral Kuznetsov and the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet, the Guided Missile Heavy Cruiser Moskva. This powerful fleet has at least 11 surface ships and unknown numbers of subs and can use the Russian naval facility at Syria's Tartous port for re-supply. The Admiral Kuznetsov carries approximately 47 warplanes and 10 helicopters. The warplanes are mostly the powerful Su-33, a naval version (with mid-air refueling capability) of the Su-27 family. While the Su-33 is a very powerful warplane it lacks the power of the stealth USAF F-22. However, the Russians insist that they have developed a plasma based system that allows them to stealth any aircraft and a recent incident where Russian fighters were able to appear unannounced over a US Navy carrier battle group tends to confirm their claims. The Su-33 can be armed with the 3M82 Moskit sea-skimming missile (NATO code name SS-N-22 Sunburn) and the even more powerful P-800 Oniks (also named Yakhonts; NATO code name SS-N-26 Onyx). Both missiles are designed to kill US Navy supercarriers by getting past the cruiser/destroyer screen and the USN point-defense Phalanx system by using high supersonic speeds and violent end maneuvers. Russian subs currently use the underwater rocket VA-111 Shkval (Squall), which is fired from standard 533mm torpedo tubes and reaches a speed of 360kph (230mph) underwater. There is no effective countermeasures to this system and no western counterpart.

Addendum 2:
The two-ton elephant in the living room of the neo-con strategy is the advanced biowar (ABW) that Iran, and to a lessor extent Syria, has. This places the motherlands of the major neo-con nations (America, France, the United Kingdom), as well as Israel, in grave danger. When the Soviet Union fell the Iranians hired as many out-of-work former Soviet advanced biowar experts as possible. In the last 15 or so years they have helped to develop a truly world class ABW program utilizing recombination DNA genetic engineering technology to create a large number of man made killer viruses. This form of weapon system does not require high tech military delivery systems. The viruses are sub-microscopic and once seeded in a population use the population itself as vectors. Seeding can be done without notice in shopping malls, churches, and other public places. The only real defense to an advanced global strategic biowar attack is to lock down the population as rapidly as possible and let those infected die off.

If this were more widely known, it would be a great casus pax, a reason for peace, as war between enemies both having weapons of mass destruction (WMD) is insane. Hence the aptly named "MAD", for mutually assured destruction, where both sides can cause truly massive fatalities on their enemy in the event of a all out war.

My recent article, WAR ON IRAN: THE PERFECT STORM FROM HELL, carried by several of the leading on-line/non-MSM sites, and read by hundreds of thousands world wide was a frightening eye opener for many to the intense danger from a all-out war between US/EU/Israel on one side and Iran/Syria/Hezhollah/Hammas on the other side. The public has been largely ignorant about the rise of a new type of global strategic warfare based on Advanced Biological War (ABW). Most people understand Biological War (BioWar or BW) as powered anthrax or smallpox and the like. That is really "your grandfather's biowar". Over the last twenty-five or so years, an entire new level of mass killing has evolved. Only this new ABW has a technology base that is far less expensive than than required for entry into the "nuclear club" of nuclear weapon producing nations. Where it costs approximately $1 million to kill a person using nuclear weapons, it only costs approximately $1 to kill one person using ABW weapons. Comparing BW to ABW is like comparing a old Model T Ford to a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom ~ both are automobiles (or types of biological warfare) but there is a difference of several orders of magnitude. ABW has a kill level in global strategic warfare similar to that of nuclear war.

It is a known fact that when the Soviet Union fell, the Iranians offered US$5,000 a month salaries to a large number of destitute out-of-work former Soviet biowar experts. Not all took Iran up on the offer, but many did. The Iranians have built up, over the last 15 plus years a truly world class ABW program, as well as co-developing with Syria the Earth's largest chemical warfare program. ABW weapons do not require ICBMs and $2 billion dollar per copy B2 bombers to kill hundreds of millions. The genetically engineered viruses are sub-microscopic and can be spread unnoticed in public places and continue spreading, through replication from person to person. An advance global strategic biological war, like a global strategic nuclear war, cannot be kept in control. In fact, the horrific massive death from global strategic biowar will certainly lead to all-out nuclear war between Russia/China and NATO/Israel.

Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran

Operation Brimstone ended only one week ago. This was the joint US/UK/French naval war games in the Atlantic Ocean preparing for a naval blockade of Iran and the likely resulting war in the Persian Gulf area. The massive war games included a US Navy supercarrier battle group, an US Navy expeditionary carrier battle group, a Royal Navy carrier battle group, a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine plus a large number of US Navy cruisers, destroyers and frigates playing the “enemy force”.

The lead American ship in these war games, the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) and its Carrier Strike Group Two (CCSG-2) are now headed towards Iran along with the USS Ronald Reagon (CVN76) and its Carrier Strike Group Seven (CCSG-7) coming from Japan.

They are joining two existing USN battle groups in the Gulf area: the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) with its Carrier Strike Group Nine (CCSG-9); and the USS Peleliu (LHA-5) with its expeditionary strike group.

Likely also under way towards the Persian Gulf is the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and its expeditionary strike group, the UK Royal Navy HMS Ark Royal (R07) carrier battle group, assorted French naval assets including the nuclear hunter-killer submarine Amethyste and French Naval Rafale fighter jets on-board the USS Theodore Roosevelt. These ships took part in the just completed Operation Brimstone.

The build up of naval forces in the Gulf will be one of the largest multi-national naval armadas since the First and Second Gulf Wars. The intent is to create a US/EU naval blockade (which is an Act of War under international law) around Iran (with supporting air and land elements) to prevent the shipment of benzene and certain other refined oil products headed to Iranian ports. Iran has limited domestic oil refining capacity and imports 40% of its benzene. Cutting off benzene and other key products would cripple the Iranian economy. The neo-cons are counting on such a blockade launching a war with Iran.

A strategic diversion has been created for Russia. The Republic of Georgia, with US backing, is actively preparing for war on South Ossetia. The South Ossetia capital has been shelled and a large Georgian tank force has been heading towards the border. Russia has stated that it will not sit by and allow the Georgians to attack South Ossetia. The Russians are great chess players and this game may not turn out so well for the neo-cons. UPDATE 8 August 2008 ~ War has broken out between Georgia and South Ossetia. At least 10 Russian troops have been killed and 30 wounded and 2 Russian fighter jets downed. American Marines, a thousand of them, have recently been in Georgia training the Georgian military forces. Several European nations stopped Bush and others from allowing Georgia into NATO. Russia is moving a large military force with armor towards the area. This could get bad, and remember it is just a strategic diversion….but one that could have horrific effects. ADDITIONAL UPDATE ~ Georgia calls for US help; Russian Air Force bombs Georgian air bases. DEBKA, the Israeli strategy and military site, states that Israeli military officers are advising the Georgian armed forces in combat operations and that 1,000 Israelis are in-combat on the side of Georgia at this time.

Why do so many people believe in catastrophic global warming?

This is a good question. The reason is that global warming is the new fashionable religion of Western democracies. Christian church attendances have long been declining and belief in global warming has filled the gap as media propaganda about its supposed catastrophic environmental effects pervades the world and alarms the populace.

This new Green eco-religion is like a wolf in sheep’s clothing and is as dangerous. Unchecked it could result in the downfall of Western civilization as we know it today, or should I say, of yesterday, for already some Governments have implemented very unwise climate change policies derived from unscientific Green beliefs.

Every religion, or belief system, has a “big stick” or propaganda to coerce the unsuspecting public to their cause. The Christian churches used to preach “hell fire and brimstone” to control their believers. The Communists promoted the idea of the “wickedness of Western capitalism”, and now the Green Eco-religion has “catastrophic global warming” to scare the living daylights out of everyone.

All this is egged on by the media, by TV, radio and newspapers, largely, I suspect because they are always under pressure to fill up the news space with anything that remotely seems to be news, whether or not it has any verification of truth about it. In such a competitive business the media is stretched to filter out the wheat from the chaff and relies on the viewer to do so.

Intermingled with this fault is media bias which is non-reporting of “politically incorrect” viewpoints. Here the owners, or managers of the media outlets have taken a stand on some issue and restrict the reporting to favor and bolster their belief system. So, viewer and listener beware! Still, the present imperfect Western media system is better than having a wholly Government controlled one, Heaven forbid! More on this topic in References.

Global warming and climate change are the most misunderstood topics existing today. They seem deliberately made confusing by the media and the Green movement. Much of the Green philosophy of having a cleaner world and of conserving energy and reducing waste is sensible, even admirable, and I support many of their endeavors to do this, but where I draw the line is when nonscientific factors (= bull) and witchcraft are introduced to promote some idealistic theory that will lead us to economic disaster and/or a supposed “Green Utopia”. Such activity is no different in principal from when in the past other fanatical groups wanted a Communist or Fascist world.

Climate change is not a new phenomenon. It has always been with us (for the last 4 billion years) and always will be with us. We are fortunate to live on this dynamic planet, the Earth. Human beings have only been around in any quantity for the last few thousand years! No amount of draconian Government policies involving “carbon trading schemes” or “carbon taxes” now proposed will make the slightest difference to climate change or global warming because these are a natural phenomenon, like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes. In other words, don’t blame increases in atmospheric CO2 for natural events over which we puny human beings have no control, for Nature rules the world!

Can we stop global warming? Is it leading us to an over heated world and a global environmental catastrophe? Sorry NO, on both counts and witchcraft won’t work!

Global warming also, is not a new phenomenon, and together with global cooling is part of climate change. It has always happened. Scientific observations to date indicate that global warming at present is not happening (not in the last decade, and only 0.7 C in the last 100 years). It is not caused by man-made CO2 emissions or results from the observed increase in atmospheric CO2 levels, rather the opposite i.e., significant global warming, when it has occurred in the past, causes an “out-gassing” of the oceans and soils resulting in an increase in atmospheric CO2, with a time lag of some 500 to 800 years (1). So much for Al Gore’s unscientific and alarmist documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” which received a 2007 Academy Award and together with the IPCC resulted in the award of the Nobel Peace Prize. What a travesty of the original award system!

Another monumental “stuff up” was the US Supreme Court decision on 2 April 2007 to rule that atmospheric CO2 was a pollutant under the Clean Air Act. It was a close decision but was political rather than scientific. Ever since then there has been a surge in unwarranted hounding of CO2 gas, which has been responsible for so many people believing in catastrophic global warming. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Atmospheric CO2, which amounts to only 385 ppm on global average is a vital life giving component for the biosphere. The fact that it is slowly increasing by ca 1 to 2 ppm each year is nothing to worry about and is a good thing, say many scientists (2). How can they say that? Well, 100 years ago the CO2 level is estimated to have been ca 290 ppm, and all was well then. Since 1908 there has been an apparent measured increase of almost 100 ppm and nothing untoward has happened to the world i.e., no dissolving of coral reefs or sea level rises etc) any more than what happened in the previous 100 years. However, what is important is that this change has had considerable beneficial effects on the biosphere and mankind.

Rate of growth of crops and forests have increased considerably and now we can (almost) feed 6.6 billion people instead of the ca 1.5 billion people that existed on Earth in 1908. Horticulturists regularly use controlled hot house atmospheres of 900 ppm CO2 to boost plant growth rates by 40%. What we need is more CO2 in the atmosphere, not less.

Many enclosed homes and lecture theaters full of people breathing out CO2 brings levels to 1000 ppm unnoticed by humans but loved by pot plants. No way is atmospheric CO2 a pollutant for we eat it (bread), drink it (beer and sparkling wine), breath it and enjoy it.

Viva la CO2 and down with the US Supreme Court!

The major TV and radio news media (BBC, DW, ABC, CNN et al ) are just propaganda vehicles
for the global warming cause and promote renewable resources, carbon emissions trading and red herrings ad nauseam. Only very rarely, and then reluctantly, will they broadcast anything contrary to this belief system (e.g., the UK documentary “The Great Global Warming Swindle”).

Newspapers are almost as bad but some do take delight in stirring the pot on climate change and attack what is “politically correct”, e.g. “The Australian”, which is Australia’s national newspaper, and Melbourne’s “Herald Sun”, have the entertaining and sharp columnists Andrew Bolt and Terry McCrann who make mince-meat of the global warmists. Try googling their blogs and readers comments … “How dare McCrann use science to disprove religion!”. However, any publication or article of substance on climate change is picked up by Internet websites that specialize in this topic.

The eco-news website “Climate Debate Daily” (http://climatedebatedaily.com) is very useful in this regard as it presents the information in two columns. The LHS is “Calls to Action” which is predominantly global warming hysteria and dross, while the RHS is “Dissenting Voices” which is predominantly serious and reliable climate change information. Both sides are added to at the average rate of one new article per day.
